Installation of Net::SSLeay Perl module fails with "openssl/err.h: No such file or directory" error

For the purpose of connecting Bugzilla installation with SSL-enabled Active Directory server I needed to compile NET::SSLeay. This can be easily done with Perl console using following command:

perl -MCPAN -e shell #to enter the Perl command line
install Net::SSLeay #to install Net::SSLeay module

In this case however I’ve ended up with “openssl/err.h: No such file or directory” error message during module compilation.

The solution to this problem is (again) pretty straightforward. You just need to install libssl-dev package for the distribution you’re running on Bugzilla server. I’m using Debian so this can be achieved by issuing following command at the SSH prompt:

apt-get install libssl-dev

After that you need to retry the installation of Net::SSLeay module. Enjoy!
